Jacky & Daniel. Iceland ice wedding

Eishöhle - Wasser

It is an absolutely magical experience to get married in a glacier cave in Iceland.

The breathtaking beauty of the icy environment merges with the meaningful ceremony to create an unforgettable setting for tying the knot. Sounds totally romantic! Exposed to the elements, getting married on a wild island surrounded by ice sounds kind of extreme though, doesn’t it? For us it sounds above all very intimate and individual.

Together with Jacky & Daniel we dared this adventure! The two offer photography trips to breathtaking locations and also met through this passion. In addition, there is the love for Iceland, which connects our couple. This wild land has also cast its spell on us, because around every bend in the road a new, wonderful landscape unfolds, home to countless waterfalls, hot springs or a geyser. Here you can experience nature in its most pristine state; largely left to its own devices and hardly conquered by man. We fell in love right away!

After arriving in Keflavík, driving to our glacier guide and spending the night at the Guest House, we set out well before sunrise. Now this sounds extreme again for one of the most beautiful days in life – however, the Icelandic sun in December rises only in the late morning and sets again shortly after noon. Since the last kilometers could only be managed in an off-road vehicle with huge tires, we collected the Icelandic registrar and started the bumpy road to the edge of the glacier.

When you enter the cave, you are surrounded by a world of shimmering ice. The glittering walls reflect the incident light and create an enchanting play of colors. The echo of one’s own footsteps reinforces the silence and gives the moment a special intimacy. It is as if nature itself witnesses the love of two people.

The extreme side of the coin: It was bitterly cold, wet and icy. So at first glance not ideal conditions, but we were well prepared: Spikes to hold the ice underfoot, good clothes against the cold and seals on the equipment. The adrenaline was also there and now the full concentration was on our bride and groom and their families. Jacky and Daniel disappeared once again a little deeper into the cave to change clothes and then the wedding could begin.

According to Icelandic customs, the actual wedding ceremony lasts only a few moments. One kiss and the exchange of rings later, the two were already husband and wife. Then followed pictures for eternity in this insane environment. Slowly we all realized where we were and what we were experiencing here.

After the ceremony there was an opportunity to explore the cave and marvel at the fascinating formations of the glacier. It’s an opportunity to experience the raw beauty of nature firsthand and celebrate the beginning of life’s journey together in an adventurous way.

You are planning something special too? The best thing is to write us a message right away. We are looking forward to it!
